There are a couple of popular phrases if used in the same sentence would make it kind of redundant: "less is more" and "the more the merrier." There aren't too many situations in which one person could use both those phrases in the same sentence and make it work because it would be too contradicting. On their own, however, and they both work fine. There's a reason why each phrase have become popular over the years and have been used in conversations around your home or Edmonton cosmetic surgery clinic.
In today's article we're going to focus more on the latter of the two, "the more the merrier", as we tackle the subject of bilingualism. If you live in a country such as Canada, and more specifically, find yourself a resident in the province of Quebec, then the term bilingualism is something you're probably quite familiar with. You will routinely find many people walking the streets of Quebec who speak and read both English and French. It's the way of the land there.
Being able to speak and read more than one language can most definitely have some advantages. For instance, if you speak multiple languages and are a driver for a Parsippany taxi service you could find yourself in a situation where you pick up a foreign passenger who doesn't speak the universal language and needs help getting around. Your bilingualism will come in quite handy in that situation if you can understand the language they're speaking.
Finding a job as a teacher in Canada is much easier if you can speak and read in multiple languages. Many study English Canada schools will be more inclined to hire someone who is bilingual as opposed to those who only speak, read and write in one language because there will be many foreign students attending the school who need help with the material.
Those are just a couple of pros of bilingualism that show how beneficial it is to know more than one language. Another useful pro to being bilingual is in regards to traveling. If you can speak not only your language but that of the country you are traveling to it will be much easier to get around and ask for help if you can speak the language of the land. Use any free time you have away from your London Ontario animal hospital job and study up on the language of the host country you'll be staying at so you can prepare yourself for the moment you have to talk to someone in their language. Just make sure you don't put your name on stick on badges and stick out like a sore thumb, as that will invite thieves looking to prey on out-of-towners.
